One interesting example: our GPR has been using by Ukrainian scientists for ice structure examination in Antarctica. They successfully mapped ice layers, measured the thickness of ice, and found heterogeneities in it.
Another possible application of GPR is a snow structure assessment in mountains. The upper layer can have different thickness, below that can be both ice and crumbly snow. Such a structure can be quite dangerous for people. GPR can pinpoint potential dangerous areas of snow avalanche descending.
On these dangerous zones GPR can be used contactless (make sounding above the surface of ice and snow).
